Gum disease is a progressive disease of the gums that causes a loss of bone density in the jawbone, the retraction of the gum line and a loss of support for dental pieces.<\/p>\n

In most cases, it is originated by harmful bacteria that grow in our mouths and that cause gingivitis, which, if left untreated, will become chronic and aggravate. Gum disease is very common, affecting up to 40% of people around 40 years old and up to 70% around 55 years old.<\/p>\n

This disease slowly destroys gum tissue and can lead to tooth loss, but can be reversed with deep cleaning treatments.<\/p>\n

Gum disease has two phases:<\/p>\n

Gingivitis<\/strong>: the most visible symptoms are swelling, bad mouth taste, redness and bleeding of the gums during brushing.<\/p>\n

Prevention<\/strong><\/p>\n

The best line of action against gum disease is impeding its appearance. Gingivitis is a low-visibility disease and, if left untreated, tends to become chronic and its treatment more complex and costly.<\/p>\n

In its first stages, gingivitis can be reverted with good dental hygiene and professional care. However, you will need to schedule appointments for treatment at least once a year.<\/p>\n

As the infection becomes more severe, the techniques to eliminate bacterial plaque are more complex and may require surgery. There are many deep cleaning techniques for the most severe cases of gum disease.<\/p>\n
