Gum disease is a progressive disease of the gums that causes a loss of bone density in the jawbone, the retraction of the gum line and a loss of support for dental pieces.
In most cases, it is originated by harmful bacteria that grow in our mouths and that cause gingivitis, which, if left untreated, will become chronic and aggravate. Gum disease is very common, affecting up to 40% of people around 40 years old and up to 70% around 55 years old.
This disease slowly destroys gum tissue and can lead to tooth loss, but can be reversed with deep cleaning treatments.
